Barbara enjoys oil painting in a traditional impressionistic style that stresses the basic beauty of oil paint by utilizing color harmony, composition, and variation of brushwork.

Her first inspiration came from watching her Grandmother paint landscapes and flowers from the garden. After graduating from UCLA and a short career in teaching, she started her family and began taking painting classes in Adult Education at San Mateo and Redwood City Junior Colleges. She then studied privately with Fred Robes (San Mateo), Jean Henry (San Francisco), and Richard Bowman (Palo Alto). While living in San Mateo, she taught for Jean Henry School of  Art in San Francisco and in her own Studio.

After retiring to the Sierra foothills near Yosemite in 1980, she studied watercolor with La Vere Hutchings (Jamestown), Joyce Pike (Morrow Bay & Placerville), and Ted Goerschener (Pinecrest). She showed her work with the Mother Lode Art Association and Central Sierra Art (Sonoma), Twain Harte Open Shows, and the Sierra Art Society in Groveland. Since returning to the Bay Area in 1999, she shows with the Sunnyvale Art Club and the Pacific Art League. Her paintings are in many private collections throughout the United States. Her awards are many, including Best of Shows in the Tuolumne County Fair and the Mother Lode Art Exhibition.

Barbara says, "I love to paint and the challenges presented to interpret my own emotions on canvas, whether it be a landscape, floral, or portrait. I strive to learn more about techniques and how to improve, as learning is never ending. What a challenge it is to confront a blank canvas and then commit yourself to portraying a beautiful feeling to which other people can relate!"
